MARLA MALLETT: KIMONO
Japanese Haori
On this page I have posted a selection of the short jackets worn by Japanese women and so beloved by Westerners. They range from very dressy, to casual. They include a variety of silk fabrics, and have been decorated with a wide range of techniques. See Japanese Kimono Design Techniques for explanations. Assorted questions are addressed on Kimono Questions.
If you are interested in wearing vintage haori, garments measuring 48" across the shoulders/arms fit sizes 2-4-6-8-10, and those measuring at least 50" across fit sizes 2-4-6-8-10-12-14. The haori are worn open, and the lapels do not meet in the front.
